A real-world build journal
A step-by-step build journal covering wood selection, slab prep, epoxy work, C-channels, metal legs, and Rubio Monocoat finishing.
Project snapshot
This is not a production furniture plan. It is a real-world build journal with process decisions, fixes, mistakes, and lessons learned — the kind of detail that actually helps when you are standing at the bench with glue drying.
A matching bench was built right alongside the table — same tree, same methods, just lighter steel — so it turns up throughout the journal too.
Start to finish, this took about four months — worked in the mornings around a full-time job, with plenty of idle days along the way. A focused builder could do it in a month or less; but taking the time to give each step real attention, and to enjoy the process, was the whole point for me.
The build, step by step
The build is broken into realistic work sessions — most are a focused 2–4 hour block. Follow them in order, or jump to the stage you are wrestling with right now.
